Liposuction (Fat Removal)

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove localized fat deposits in specific areas of the body that cause uneven contours and disrupt natural proportions. It helps sculpt and refine targeted regions, resulting in a slimmer, more defined silhouette. Common treatment areas include the thighs (outer and inner), abdomen, waist, back, hips, and the inner knees. It’s important to note that liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss and should not replace a healthy diet and exercise routine.

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

The ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals who have already reached their target weight, have good skin elasticity and muscle tone, and are non-smokers. These patients typically have stubborn fat deposits in specific areas that do not respond to diet or physical activity. For such cases, liposuction can be a highly effective body contouring solution.

What are the risks of liposuction?

Choosing to undergo liposuction is a personal decision and should be made after understanding both the benefits and potential risks. Possible complications include anesthesia-related reactions, bruising, temporary or permanent changes in skin sensation, injury to deeper structures (such as nerves, blood vessels, or internal organs), asymmetry, contour irregularities, swelling, and delayed wound healing. A thorough consultation with your surgeon is essential to discuss these risks.

How should you prepare for liposuction?

Preparation is key for a safe and smooth recovery. You should stop smoking at least four weeks before the procedure. Additionally, discontinue any blood-thinning supplements or medications at least 10 days prior to surgery.
Avoid the following before surgery:

Painkillers such as Apranax, Voltaren, Vermidon (you may use Minoset or Novalgin if needed)

Multivitamins containing Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, or Coenzyme Q10

Herbal and natural supplements such as green tea, flaxseed, cherry stems, tomato seeds

All types of weight-loss supplements

What is the recovery process like after liposuction?

After the procedure, you will need to wear a special compression garment that is custom-fit to the treated areas. This garment helps reduce swelling, support healing tissues, and improve final contour results. It should be worn continuously for six weeks. You may shower with the garment on and dry it using a hairdryer if needed. Once you begin removing the garment during the day, it is strongly recommended to undergo lymphatic drainage massage. These massages help reduce post-operative swelling and improve contour smoothness.
