Inlay Onlay Fillings
What is Inlay Onlay filling?
When it comes to aesthetic dental fillings, inlay and onlay restorations are often the first options considered. Onlay fillings cover a larger and broader area compared to inlays. Inlays are quite similar to traditional fillings and are placed between the raised points (tubercles) on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Onlays, on the other hand, are designed to cover one or more of these tubercles, offering a more extensive restoration.

Porcelain Onlay Filling
When more than half of a tooth’s surface is damaged due to decay or trauma, traditional fillings often fail to provide long-lasting results. Placing a crown on such teeth would require unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure. In these situations, inlay and onlay restorations offer the most effective and conservative solution.
How are Inlay Onlay Porcelain Fillings made?
– Cleaning the tooth to remove all decay
– Taking impressions using materials such as alginate, silicone, or fast-setting vinyl polysiloxane
– Creating the restoration on a study model using opaque and translucent composite or porcelain
– Fitting and trying the restoration on the patient
– Final bonding of the restoration to the tooth
